Ninety-two percent of Black women who supported former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 Presidential Election entered election night with great expectations. However, after learning that Donald J. Trump, a twice-impeached, 34-time convicted felon, had won, many Black women voiced their intention to reclaim their time and focus on their community and personal well-being. This revealed a reluctance among them to engage in forthcoming struggles, as prioritizing self-care has become increasingly important.Twelve days post-election, Georgia State Rep. Dar’shun Kendrick convened a gathering of nearly two dozen women to strategize future actions. This included community leaders and activists discussing their feelings and forming the Black Women Act (BWA), aimed at advocating for Black women's interests in government.Kendrick articulated the need for a paradigm shift from saving others to organizing for Black women’s empowerment. The BWA’s mission is to strategically uplift policies impacting Black women, educate the public, and amplify their collective voice for meaningful change.
