The festivities commenced at noon in the parking area of BLK + BRWN on 39th Street. In spite of the intense heat and gusty winds, numerous supporters turned out for Cori Smith, The Local Book Pusher. Over 20 vendors gathered in the space at 104 1/2 W 39th St., forming a lively marketplace filled with food, music, and community spirit. The block party featured a live DJ, engaging games, and displays of local art. Attendees from diverse backgrounds united to celebrate alongside BLK + BRWN and various local enterprises, such as AIMWell Yoga, Sage Sol Ceramics, Moonlit Juicery, and Evaline Esthetics. Key sponsors included BlaqOut and Andrews McMeel Publishing. Food vendor Sparker Kitchen offered grilled Philly cheesesteaks while Kinship Cafe provided delicious chai lattes. Cori Smith opened BLK + BRWN in 2021 to fill a significant void in the local literary landscape for Black and Brown individuals, aiming to create a space where their stories are honored.
