Chrystal Armstong Brown was named interim CEO of United Way of Greater Knoxville, effective Nov. 11. Brown previously held the position of chief impact officer with the organization. No stranger to leadership, she has served as vice president of program development for the Emerald Youth Foundation. Born in Columbia Tenn., a minister and member of the 2025 Leadership Knoxville class, Brown will have the opportunity to develop her vision of Knoxville. Her words painted a picture of hope as she said, “I envision Knoxville as a beloved community where the well-being and prosperity of every person is prioritized, where equity is in access, opportunity and outcomes is imperative, and where an outstanding quality of life for all generations is a reality.” As interim CEO, Brown leads the Knoxville United Way, a part of a global network of independent nonprofits. The United Way of Greater Knoxville offers programs to help with resources and education, mentorship, financial support and goal planning. The organization also provides opportunities through the issuance of millions of dollars in community grants given to local nonprofits.
