Recently, California State University, Sacramento established a first of its kind Black Honors College which will support students from all backgrounds who study Black history, life, and culture.
Starting in the fall 2024 semester, students who have been accepted into the honors college will be exposed to a comprehensive curriculum focused on the Black American experience. The college will feature specialized general education courses with smaller class sizes and faculty members who have a record of successfully supporting Black students. Students of the honors college will also be provided with mentoring and internship opportunities.
“The Black Honors College is designed to create a pathway for our Black students at Sacramento State that has never existed, to uplift our scholars, and to help them persist to graduation,” said Boatamo Mosupyoe, the college’s dean of students and chief academic officer.
