The New Pittsburgh Courier has uncovered that local artists in the Pittsburgh area are competing to design artwork for a Pittsburgh Penguins jersey in honor of Black History Month, slated for February 2026. Additionally, the selected artist will receive a substantial cash prize, courtesy of The Forbes Funds, through a collaboration between Kofi Collections and the Creatives Inclusive Fund. This artwork will adorn jerseys worn by Penguins players during practice and warmups, with additional jerseys featuring the Black History designs available for purchase at PPG Paints Arena and online. Kofi Collections, established in 2024 and spearheaded by Quincy "Kofi" Swatson, has received submissions from approximately 20 artists as of November 19, 2025. Interested artists must complete an introductory form by November 20, with final applications due by November 21. The winning artist will be announced by December 10 and will also receive tickets to the Penguins’ game, their custom jersey, and other prizes. For details, visit koficollections.org.
