Carol Bennett Recognized for Outstanding Leadership in the Field of Urology

Carol Bennett, professor of urology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles, has received the Jean Fourcroy Leadership Award from the Society of Women in Urology. In 1987, Dr. Bennett became the nation’s first Black woman to be board-certified by the American Board of Urology. Nine years later, she became UCLA’s first woman faculty member in the department of urology. From 2019 to 2024, she served as the Henry E. Singleton Professor of Urology. She also previously served as chief of urology at the West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Medical Center. In 2022, the center renamed its urology clinic to the Carol J. Bennett Urology Clinic in her honor. Dr. Bennett has conducted extensive research on treating urinary tract diseases and defects in men, which has led to breakthroughs in the treatment of men suffering from neurogenic injuries caused by spinal cord trauma. In addition to her scholarship, she is a dedicated advocate for other women in urology. Dr. Bennett earned her medical degree from Georgetown University.
