Carver names Holmes head football coach

Carver High School has hired a new head football coach. In a social media post made last week, it was announced that Cornelius Holmes has been named head coach of the Yellowjackets. While speaking with Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools (WS/FCS) marketing department shortly after being introduced as the new head coach, Holmes said, “I wanted to be at Carver, I’m glad I’m here … and this is where I need to be.”   Holmes stepped in last October to lead the Yellowjackets as interim head coach. Under his leadership over the final four games of the season, Carver went 2-2, picking up wins over Pine Lake Prep and rival Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy. The Yellowjackets finished the season 4-7, and finished sixth in their conference.  A native of Detroit, Holmes played four seasons at Winston-Salem State University for Rams legend Bill Hayes. Like dozens of others who played for him, Holmes said Hayes played a major role in helping him become the man he is today. After earning his degree in public administration, Holmes went on to work for the Winston-Salem Fire Department.
