During Easter weekend, Chicago joined prominent cities such as New York, Atlanta, and Houston in advocating for shopping at local Black-owned enterprises. The “Spend in the Black” initiative presented over 100 vendors along Chatham's vibrant 75th Street corridor. Rev. Charlie Dates emphasized the significance of uplifting businesses that uphold dignity. The Chatham Chamber of Commerce also promoted gift card purchases to enhance community investment. Local resident Robert Pollard expressed appreciation for the community’s backing, while entrepreneur Darnell Gaffney noted the unusually high foot traffic as transformative.
