Pic : Anindya Saha This year, the popular Fatakeshto Kali Puja in the city has transformed a 50-meter lane into a vibrant street canvas celebrating the theme of gaan (music). In a delightful display of community spirit, neighbouring artists joined hands to bring this artwork to life, filling the street with hand-painted visuals inspired by music, from traditional Bengali instruments to popular musical motifs. The idea took shape with the help of a local drawing school, Chitralekha Art School whose students and instructor eagerly volunteered their talents, bringing colour and creativity to the narrow lane.“Last year, we couldn’t go ahead with this idea as the road was in poor shape,” shared Gopal Saha, assistant working secretary of Naba Jubak Sangha, the organisers of the Pujo. She added, “But two years ago, it was a big hit, and we’re thrilled to bring it back. We’re all about shabekiana (the old ways), so our pandal doesn’t have a theme and thus we’ve also kept the artwork raw and natural, letting the street speak for itself.” Pic : Anindya Saha Why was music chosen as a theme?
