The United States Coast Guard vessel Vigilant returned home to Cape Canaveral following a successful 60-day deployment in the Caribbean Sea.
The ship played a significant role in intercepting a drug trafficking venture, resulting in the seizure of cocaine worth an estimated $15.7 million.
Vigilant’s crew worked alongside the USS Leyte Gulf and detained six suspected drug traffickers during patrols in the Central and Eastern Caribbean seas.
The vessel also conducted a professional exchange with officials in Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts, and Nevis, promoting regional stability and security and strengthening partnerships.
In addition, while patrolling, Vigilant’s crew received a distress signal from a French-flagged sailing vessel.
Two French crew members were stranded at sea for over eight days, with no means of propulsion and no remaining drinking water.
Vigilant responded quickly, providing the crew with water, shelter, and medical aid until their safe return home.
