Cocaine Worth $15.7 Million Seized In The Caribbean Sea

The United States Coast Guard vessel Vigilant returned home to Cape Canaveral following a successful 60-day deployment in the Caribbean Sea. The ship played a significant role in intercepting a drug trafficking venture, resulting in the seizure of cocaine worth an estimated $15.7 million. Vigilant’s crew worked alongside the USS Leyte Gulf and detained six suspected drug traffickers during patrols in the Central and Eastern Caribbean seas. The vessel also conducted a professional exchange with officials in Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts, and Nevis, promoting regional stability and security and strengthening partnerships. In addition, while patrolling, Vigilant’s crew received a distress signal from a French-flagged sailing vessel. Two French crew members were stranded at sea for over eight days, with no means of propulsion and no remaining drinking water.
