These murals, selected by residents and painted by local artists, line the path between Warren Gateway Park and I-96. The project, made possible through a collaboration between local businesses, the city, and community members, transforms once-blighted walls into vibrant works of art. This initiative is part of a broader effort to rejuvenate neighborhoods, ensuring that the voices of Detroiters are reflected in the spaces they call home. Local businesses generously donated wall space, and City Walls Detroit, in partnership with the Joe Louis Greenway Landscaping Design Unit, identified six key spots where these murals could be placed. What makes this project especially significant is the community’s role in selecting the artwork. Detroiters had the opportunity to review sketches and applications, ensuring that the final designs reflected the voices and visions of those who live, work, and walk along the greenway. This $90,000 endeavor was made possible through a Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) beautification grant.
