‘Not a gift:’ Reparations dinner celebrates final group of ancestor disbursements

Greetings and congratulations were at every corner of the Parasol Room at the Morton Civic Center on Tuesday for the annual dinner for Evanston reparations ancestor recipients.  Disbursement of reparations for ancestors who lived in Evanston between 1919 and 1969 as adults and who were affected by housing discrimination practices such as redlining is almost complete. The city held the final dinner for the last round of almost 60 recipients. They were honored with a catered dinner from Queen Dinner Dash and a libation, where a drink is poured in honor of a deity, with the ceremony performed by Dr. Gilo Kwesi Logan, Mandingo Guadalupe and Chaaze P.
