President Trump’s announcement to prohibit, restrict, or limit the entry of individuals from 19 nations—many predominantly inhabited by Black and Brown populations—represents a starkly harsh and racially motivated effort to deny certain foreign nationals access to opportunities. By erroneously branding these individuals as terrorists and threats to our country, the administration is perpetuating a long-standing, abhorrent practice of family separation.This proclamation is not about national safety but rather underscores a persistent pattern of discriminatory assaults targeting Black and Brown nations. The intention is to instill fear, cultivate division, and vilify the vulnerable, many of whom are recovering from dire situations, in need of urgent health care, or seeking reunification with family after years apart. Others are escaping oppressive regimes in pursuit of safety and improved lives in the United States.In response, the Congressional Black Caucus met with Haitian ambassador to the U.S., Lionel Delatour, to address the travel ban and other pressing issues.The CBC remains dedicated to defending our nation's most at-risk communities—all with ties to the affected countries.
