Police Mistake Black Former NFL Player for White Teen and Draw Guns During Stop

Arizona authorities were on the lookout for a 19-year-old white male implicated in a shooting when they apprehended 53-year-old Wesley Leasy, a former NFL linebacker, at gunpoint earlier this year, alongside his 26-year-old daughter, Jade. This week, Leasy has filed a notice of claim against both the Mesa and Phoenix police departments, seeking a million-dollar settlement prior to a potential lawsuit.In an interview, Leasy expressed his profound fear during the incident, stating, "I've never been so afraid in my entire life." The confrontation occurred on April 10 as he was retrieving Jade from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport after a business trip.Police mistook Leasy's newly purchased white Mercedes, which bore temporary tags, for that of the suspect’s vehicle. Attorney Benjamin Taylor emphasized that the Leasy's could have been severely harmed during this encounter.
