CSA Ready To Represent Employees Of A Revived RSL

The Saint Lucia Civil Service Association (CSA) has expressed its readiness to support the workers of a reactivated Radio Saint Lucia (RSL).
Information Minister Dr. Ernest Hilaire declared earlier this month that at times of potential crises, such as Saint Lucia’s recent brush with Hurricane Beryl, the population sorely misses the state-owned station.
Hilaire reiterated plans to reactivate the station, adding that the Government was awaiting final approval from the Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority (ECTEL).
The former United Workers Party (UWP) administration closed RSL in July 2017, citing financial losses and unpaid taxes.
The CSA’s General Secretary, Mac Stephen Aubertin, recalled that the trade union had vigorously opposed the station’s closure.
“We had meetings and discussions with the government and the chairman, but they were adamant about doing what they wanted to do,” Aubertin told St. Lucia Times.
Despite this, he said the CSA succeeded in ensuring that the previous administrators of Radio Saint Lucia paid the workers’ outstanding dues at the time of the station’s closure.
According to Aubertin, the CSA is prepared to represent the workers of a newly revived station under new terms and conditions.
