On Wednesday, Jefferson County District Attorney Danny Carr announced that no charges would be filed against an Alabama police officer involved in the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Jabari Peoples. The officer's use of deadly force was deemed justified as it was reported that Peoples seized a firearm following a struggle. The incident took place on June 23 in a Homewood parking lot, a suburb of Birmingham, where Peoples was with a friend. Carr indicated that the officer attempted to detain Peoples due to suspected marijuana, noticing a gun in the car door. During the altercation, Peoples allegedly fled back to the vehicle to retrieve the firearm. According to Carr, the officer fired one shot, striking Peoples in the back, which led to his death. Family members, however, have raised persistent concerns over the incident's details and are advocating for the release of the full body camera footage. Attorney Ben Crump, representing the family, emphasized the need for complete transparency.
