A man from Georgia emerged victorious in a legal confrontation with the federal government after the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) confiscated his cash at Atlanta's airport, deeming him “suspicious.” In March 2021, Brian Moore Jr. was en route to Los Angeles when DEA agents halted him, claiming to have observed what they interpreted as dubious behavior, according to court records. Despite not being charged with any offense, agents searched his belongings and discovered $8,500 in cash, which they seized, allowing Moore to continue his journey. Moore expressed his frustration, stating, “They told me I looked suspicious… I wasn’t doing anything wrong.” While the DEA suspected the funds were linked to illegal drug operations, Moore, an aspiring musician, intended to use the money for a photo shoot and music video in Los Angeles. After extensive legal efforts, the government dismissed the case and returned the seized cash. Yet, Moore incurred over $15,000 in attorney fees. A recent ruling mandated the government reimburse these legal expenses, prompting Moore to feel a sense of justice at last.
