A federal lawsuit has emerged, claiming an Oregon police officer left a handcuffed man, Nathan Bradford Smith, to endure a fatal overdose in the back of a patrol car while he indulged in TikTok videos and intimate messages inside the police station.Smith’s family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit, alleging negligence, abuse toward a vulnerable individual, and “deliberate indifference” stemming from his methamphetamine overdose during a July 7, 2024 arrest. Dashcam footage captured his distress as he slumped over, gasping for air.Despite a quick three-minute drive to the station, the officer abandoned Smith for eight minutes while seeking personal entertainment. Upon his return, Smith was found unconscious. After attempts to revive him failed, the officer administered Narcan and called for an ambulance. Paramedics found Smith's body temperature at an alarming 107.3 degrees, leading to his eventual cardiac arrest and death. Doctors attributed his demise to hyperthermia from methamphetamine intoxication. (Photo: YouTube screenshot/KGW News)
