A police sergeant in New York was placed on suspension after being captured on camera instigating a violent conflict, during which he seized a teenager by the neck and slammed him against a storefront window. Surveillance video recorded on August 3 displays the interaction between the unidentified sergeant and 17-year-old Andrew Garcias outside a bodega post the United Latin Festival and Parade in Haverstraw, New York. Footage reveals bystanders socializing on the sidewalk as the two officers were patrolling the area. Reportedly, following the festival's conclusion, law enforcement instructed the crowd to disperse. When Garcias inquired why dispersal was necessary, the sergeant confronted him, leading to the aggressive act. A witness described how the sergeant lost control after the teenager remarked, “You’re not my father.” The sergeant has since been placed on paid administrative leave amid an ongoing investigation into the incident.
