Renowned singer and DJ, Michael, has recently advocated for collaboration between Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) President, Eddy Kenzo, and Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) President, Cindy Sanyu. Michael emphasizes that such collaboration would benefit all artists across Uganda.
UMA, established in 2018, has seen turnover in leadership, with Cindy Sanyu being the longest-serving president due to frequent resignations by her predecessors. Challenges, including financial constraints, hindered potential contenders like King Saha from challenging Cindy’s leadership.
Despite UMA’s existence, its impact on supporting artists has been limited. Recognizing this gap, Eddy Kenzo identified an opportunity to establish his own federation.

Though the federation is nascent, Kenzo and fellow artists have actively advocated for copyright law reform, viewing it as pivotal for artist welfare.
Their efforts have included engagements with President Museveni on copyright legislation. However, Cindy Sanyu has expressed dissatisfaction with Kenzo’s initiatives, perceiving them as undermining UMA’s efforts.
DJ Michael emphasizes the importance of collaboration, asserting that division serves no one’s interests. He stresses the need for Cindy and Kenzo to work together to ensure no artist is left behind.
