Charges Follow News That An Indiana Teacher Slapped A Student And Discussed Shooting A Second Child

An educator from Indiana is currently facing allegations of inappropriate behavior involving students. Cherie Hofmann, a 57-year-old science instructor at Corydon Central High School, has been arrested and charged with one count of battery resulting in bodily harm, alongside two counts of intimidation tied to separate incidents last month.As detailed in a probable cause affidavit, a student reported to a school resource officer that during a biology lesson on October 22, Ms. Hofmann slapped him after he accidentally spilled a small amount of water. Witnesses corroborated his account, stating she admonished him for the accident. Subsequently, the victim’s mother opted to pursue assault charges. During the investigation, another student disclosed that Hofmann had threatened to slap her and allegedly remarked she wished to shoot a male classmate. When questioned, Hofmann described her actions as a gentle pat and denied any threatening statements, emphasizing that as a firearms instructor, she would never make such reckless comments. The local school authorities are cooperating with the investigation, having placed Bofmann on leave during the review process.
