Breaking Barriers: Dr. Chelsey Green Leads Recording Academy® as Youngest Chair

The Recording Academy® has made a groundbreaking decision by electing Dr. Chelsey Green as the Chair of its Board of Trustees. She distinguishes herself as both the youngest individual and the first Black woman to assume this significant position in the Academy’s 68-year narrative. An accomplished Billboard-charting artist and an Associate Professor at Berklee College of Music, Dr. Green has gained accolades for her innovative contributions across various genres, including jazz, R&B, soul, funk, and classical music. Her ensemble, Chelsey Green and The Green Project, has delivered five critically acclaimed albums, with one featuring on Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz chart. Recently, she achieved a No. 1 single as a collaborator with pianist-producer Nathan Mitchell. Dr. Green has graced stages alongside legends such as Stevie Wonder, Lizzo, and the Wu-Tang Clan, while also performing with prestigious orchestras.
