Dr. Luke Wood: Elevating Sacramento State's Athletic Ambitions to New Heights

For many long-time residents of Sacramento, Sacramento State may have traditionally appeared as a tranquil local establishment, primarily recognized for its fierce football rivalry with UC Davis in the Causeway Classic. However, with Dr. Luke Wood's recent appointment as the youngest president in the university's history, a profound transformation is underway. A proud Sac State alumnus, Wood is committed to enhancing the institution’s academic and athletic stature. His plans include the introduction of the Black Honors College, which seeks to elevate Black students and aims to improve their four-year graduation rate from 17.4% to exceed the CSU benchmark of 23%. His January appearance on Jennifer Hudson's show garnered significant national attention. On the athletic front, he has recruited esteemed coach Brennan Marion from UNLV to elevate the football program’s profile. Additionally, Sacramento State is poised to modernize its football stadium, expanding capacity from 21,000 to 25,000, while a new basketball arena is being constructed to enrich the sports atmosphere at this dynamic institution.
