Pennsylvania Officer Ripped In Court For Locking Up Innocent Black Teen And Concealing Proof

A federal lawsuit has been initiated by a teenager and his mother against Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and its police department, alleging wrongful arrest and detention. Mekhi Johnson and his mother, Amber Garrity, claim that Agent Benjamin Hitesman neglected to acknowledge evidence exonerating Johnson after he was misidentified in surveillance footage and incarcerated for nearly a month on gun charges.The lawsuit details an incident occurring on July 22, 2024, where two masked individuals were spotted fleeing a shooting scene. Based on a brief video segment, Hitesman allegedly misidentified Johnson as one of the suspects, despite other evidence pointing to a different individual, J.B. Furthermore, Hitesman's actions and subsequent inaction to correct his misidentification have drawn severe criticism from a county judge. After 29 days in detention, all charges against Johnson were dismissed, highlighting significant failures within the investigative process of the local police department.
