Emma Coronel, the spouse of notorious drug lord El Chapo, has been officially released from prison after claiming ignorance regarding her husband's illicit drug operations. Coronel asserted that she had no knowledge of the extensive cocaine dynasty flourishing just beyond her awareness. The Federal Bureau of Prisons has confirmed her release, believed to have emerged from a California halfway house where she had been relocated from federal custody in June. Meanwhile, El Chapo, currently serving a life sentence in a high-security Colorado facility, recently penned a letter expressing his desire for visits from Coronel and their two daughters. Convicted in 2019 of leading the Sinaloa cartel, El Chapo's organization has allegedly trafficked over 1,000 tons of various drugs into the United States. During her trial, prosecutors indicated Coronel’s significant involvement in her husband's escape plans and messaging within the cartel, before her own arrest in February 2021. She ultimately pled guilty to drug trafficking and money laundering, receiving a reduced sentence of three years.
