Evan Nolan was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Councilmember Reggie Harris. Harris resigned to serve in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in Washington, D.C. The appointment of Nolan changes the racial balance on City Council from majority Black to majority White, and for the first time in more than a decade, there is no councilmember from the LGBTQIA community.Nolan, an attorney, formerly worked in the City’s Law Department. He resigned in 2022 to considered for City Council when Greg Landsman left to serve in Congress. At that time, Seth Walsh was chosen for Landsman’s seat and Nolan joined the law firm of Katz Teller.Nolan said his priorities on Council will be public safety, a balanced budget, economic development, affordable housing, reducing gun violence, pedestrian safety, and climate change.He added that he will upload the values of ethics, good governance, and racial equity.
