CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — A three-judge federal appellate panel ruled on Thursday in favor of NASCAR in an antitrust case brought by two teams, including one owned by Michael Jordan. The ruling annulled an injunction that required 23XI and Front Row Racing to be acknowledged as chartered teams while their legal dispute continues. The teams filed suit against NASCAR after opting not to renew their charter agreements, which function like franchises but can be revoked by NASCAR. 23XI, co-owned by Jordan and famed racer Denny Hamlin, joined forces with Front Row after other teams accepted new agreements last September. “We're disappointed by this ruling and are evaluating our options,” remarked attorney Jeffery Kessler, emphasizing their faith in the trial's prospects scheduled for December. Without the injunction, both teams may encounter challenges during the season — including implications for Tyler Reddick's contract. The teams have 14 days to appeal, and without action, their six entries might be deemed “open” cars.
