Five HBCUs Receive Federal Funding to Expand Study Abroad Opportunities

The United States Department of State has awarded 37 grants totaling nearly $1.3 million to colleges and universities across the country through the 2024 Increase and Diversify Education Abroad for U.S. Students (IDEAS) Program. Five IDEAs grants were awarded to historically Black colleges or universities. The IDEAS program aims to support the development of study abroad programs and international partnerships at American higher education institutions. The grant funding will be used to train faculty and staff, create resources that spark students’ interest in study abroad, and establish virtual and hybrid exchange programs. The HBCU 2024 IDEAS grant awardees are Coppin State University in Maryland, Fort Valley State University in Georgia, Kentucky State University, Livingstone College in North Carolina, and the University of the District of Columbia.
