Five Killed As Weekend Shootings Rock Sacramento

By Robert J. Hansen | OBSERVER Staff WriterTwo former Inderkum High School football players were shot Friday night in downtown Sacramento, Sacramento police said. Colby Tevis, 22, was killed, while Jeremiah Tyes, also 22, survived and is hospitalized, said Deborah Grimes, a family friend of both men.The incident was among several incidents of gun violence over the weekend. Five people died and three were hospitalized. In all but one shooting, no suspects have been identified.Grimes, who lost her son Gregory Najee Grimes to gun violence in 2022, expressed her heartbreak over the incident. Najee Grimes, a former Inderkum High football player and coach, had coached Tevis and Tyes.“I am triggered,” Grimes told The OBSERVER. “This is exactly what we’ve been working to prevent.”Cobly Tevis, 22, was shot and killed downtown Sept. 20.
