This summer, the Dallas Independent School District (DISD) will offer nutritious, complimentary meals for all children aged 18 and under, and those up to 21 with disabilities, beginning June 2. The Summer Food Service Program, overseen by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and implemented by the Texas Department of Agriculture, is crucial for kids who depend on school meals during the academic year. This initiative ensures they receive nourishment during the long summer break. Debi Rowley, executive director of Food and Child Nutrition Services, emphasized, “Our commitment to Dallas ISD students’ health and well-being drives us to provide healthy meals at no cost to young individuals in our community.” The meals adhere to or surpass USDA nutritional standards, featuring whole grains, lean proteins, an array of fruits and vegetables, and milk. Consumption of meals is required on-site. Families can locate meal sites via: - The interactive site locator at https://www.dallasisd.org/fcns - By calling 2-1-1 for assistance - Texting “Food” to 304-304 Dallas ISD, in collaboration with United Way, will launch the program on June 12, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the West Dallas Multipurpose Center, offering games, activities, food, giveaways, taste tests, and local vendors.
