Democratic activist and former DNC vice chair David Hogg has announced his endorsement of state Rep. Donavan McKinney, D-Detroit, over incumbent U.S. Rep. Shri Thanedar in Michigan’s 13th District. “Shri Thanedar exemplifies the type of out-of-touch, ineffective, self-serving incumbent we aim to remove,” Hogg stated on Monday. He is the founder and president of Leaders We Deserve, an action committee focused on challenging Democratic politicians whom Hogg claims fail to resonate with the evolving Democratic landscape. Hogg criticized Thanedar for his dismal constituent services, nearly $1 million spent on self-promotional ads, and a shift from rejecting corporate donations to accepting significant funds shortly after taking office. This marks the first of many incumbent challenges, according to Hogg. Leaders We Deserve has also backed Christian Menefee in Texas's 18th District and Randy Villegas in California's 22nd District. Black leaders in Wayne County endorsed McKinney, emphasizing the necessity for a Black representative in Congress. (Photo: Wikipedia Commons)
