As hunger rates escalate throughout North Texas, the complimentary distribution plays an essential role in supporting students, families, and the surrounding community.With Texas leading the nation in food insecurity, UNT Dallas’ monthly drive-thru food pantry addresses a vital need for individuals and families in southern Dallas and neighboring areas. Collaborating with the North Texas Food Bank, UNT Dallas will hold its upcoming free food distribution event on October 17, from 9 a.m. to noon (or until supplies are exhausted) at its southern Dallas campus located at 7300 University Hills Blvd.Future distributions are scheduled for November 22 and December 19 (dates may change).This year, UNT Dallas has supplied over 191,000 pounds of food to around 11,900 individuals in the region. The ongoing demand is substantial. Feeding America’s “Map the Meal Gap” report reveals one in six North Texans lack reliable access to sufficient nutrition.
