Free health screenings available Saturday at FAMU during Black Family Wellness Expo

(WCTV) – Residents will be able to receive free health screenings and hear from guest speakers at the Black Family Wellness Expo on Saturday in Tallahassee, according to a press release. Martin Luther King, Jr Blvd WHEN: Saturday, March 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. WHAT: Free health screenings, guest speakers, food trucks, music and more The Tallahassee Chapter of the Links Incorporated has partnered with FAMU College of Pharmacy and HCA Florida for the Black Family Wellness Expo.(The Tallahassee Chapter of the Links Incorporated) African Americans are at higher risk for many illnesses, including heart disease, diabetes, cancer and stroke, according to research by the Office of Minority Health with the Department of Health and Human Services. In an effort to raise awareness for these increased health risks and ultimately reduce these disparities, the national service organization Links Incorporated, an American nonprofit led by Black women, will host this inaugural event at locations across the U.S. FAMU Pharmacy students will provide resources such as blood pressure screenings, blood donation drives and more to members of the public.
