Free tax prep program kicks off with Open House

Tax season is here. United Way of Central Indiana is ready to help individuals and families ease their burdens with its Indy Free Tax Prep program, kicking off with an open house at the John Boner Neighborhood Center Jan. 29. The program offers free tax preparation services to households earning $66,000 or less in 2024. The open house takes place from 1011 a.m. at the Boner Center, 2236 East 10th Street.  Attendees can meet volunteer tax preparers, program clients and representatives from United Way, the Boner Center and the IRS. Indy Free Tax Prep operates across Boone, Delaware, Hendricks, Marion and Morgan counties from late January through mid-April. Those needing assistance can find a complete list of locations and sign-up instructions at **indyfreetaxprep.com** starting Jan. 29. Since United Way began administering the program in 2015, volunteers prepared over 48,900 tax returns, putting more than $44 million back into taxpayers’ pockets. In 2014, 130 IRS-certified volunteers prepared over 4,900 returns, helping taxpayers claim more than $4.4 million in refunds.
