The 14th annual Gary International Black Film Festival from Oct. 10-13 will offer viewers the chance to see over 50 films with world premieres, panel discussions, filmmaker chats, parties and award ceremonies. The festival is in the heart of Gary, 30 minutes from downtown Chicago. At the center of the festival are Black indie filmmakers, several of which will be honored with awards throughout the weekend.Leading up to the weekend, the festival will celebrate Deon Taylor Day on Oct. 8 in recognition of his work as a local filmmaker.A screening of a film at the Gary International Black Film Festival. The events leading up to the festival will feature in-person collaborations with local businesses and organizations, including a Festival Pre-Funk at Brown Skin Coffee Tea on Oct. 10. The following day, there will be a red carpet opening with featured film premieres and a gala closing night awards ceremony.The festival showcases the roots and stories of international film makers across the Black diaspora.
