Gateway Medical Society, a nonprofit organization boasting over seventy years of advocacy for health care and policy support for economically disadvantaged and underserved communities in the greater Pittsburgh area, hosted its “Black Excellence in White Coats Awards & Scholarship Gala” on October 25, 2025, at the Pittsburgh Marriott City Center. Felicia E. Snead, M.D., FASTRO, was honored as the 2025 Oswald J. Nickens, M.D., Physician of the Year, recognizing her significant advancements in radiation oncology, cancer research, and her commitment to patient care. Lawrence L. Gipson, M.D., received the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award for his enduring legacy marked by dedication to clinical excellence and unwavering integrity. Piper Carroll, M.D., acknowledged as the 2025 Rising Star, is a founding member of C-ROC and exemplifies Gateway's mission. Additionally, Sylvia V. Fields, Marcia M. Sturdivant, Ph.D., and Alice Williams were recipients of the “Making a Difference” Award, while Adaora Okigbo, a second-year medical student at the University of Pittsburgh, earned a scholarship for outstanding underrepresented students.
