Fred A. Toomer Elementary School proudly joins the Atlanta Public Schools in the innovative Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation 2025 mobile eye care initiative. This program addresses the increasing demand for pediatric vision services across populous Georgia counties, facilitated by the Sight For Kids initiative, co-established by Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) and Johnson & Johnson. Teaming with the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation's existing school-based screenings, Sight For Kids targets Fulton, Chatham, Clayton, Cobb, and Gwinnett counties, aiming to screen 10,000 students in over 50 schools throughout a two-year partnership commencing in 2024. Alarmingly, 30-40% of elementary-aged children in Georgia have unaddressed vision needs. Many lack access to essential eye care, with 52 counties facing significant limitations. Beth Ehrhardt, Executive Director of the foundation, emphasizes the importance of this initiative as vital to student education and literacy. This collaborative effort underlines the commitment to ensuring every child can access the vision care they need for academic success.
