A homeowners association in North Texas is now confronted with dual federal lawsuits accusing it of attempting to expel hundreds of Black residents dependent on government housing assistance, while also perpetuating racial harassment.Incidents of intimidation occurred on unofficial social media platforms for Providence Village, a suburban enclave near Dallas, where derogatory terms like “ghetto” and “lazy entitled leeches” were hurled at Black residents, seemingly attributing crime and community issues to them.A federal lawsuit, initiated in April in the Eastern District of Texas, highlighted a particularly distressing post featuring a Black man depicted with a noose. The allegations indicate that the Providence Homeowners Association enacted discriminatory rental rules targeting tenants utilizing vouchers, further aggravating tensions exacerbated by the increase of voucher-holding families within a predominantly white community.
