In a groundbreaking development for high school sports, Dallas ISD, in collaboration with the Dallas Cowboys, has launched its inaugural girls flag football league. "This initiative empowers girls to cultivate leadership abilities, enhance self-esteem, and build enduring connections. It provides a platform for competition, physical activity, and potential pathways in sports," stated Paula Lewis, coach at Lincoln High School. "Whether aspiring to play collegiate sports or engaging in coaching or sports management, opportunities abound for these young women."Among the pioneers, graduates Sy'Niyah G. and Jisselle G. have become the first Dallas ISD athletes to secure college scholarships for flag football at Texas Wesleyan University.Participation in the league included all 22 high schools in Dallas ISD, underscoring its widespread impact. Nicole Stovall, assistant athletic coordinator, emphasized that the program not only fosters athleticism and teamwork but also enhances the visibility of female athletes, encouraging their involvement in the sport. Lewis noted the considerable need for such opportunities, predicting further growth and success in the coming seasons.
