An Indiana Uber driver accused of raping and killing his female passenger, Chanti Dixon, initially told police an armed Black man shot her and fled. The shocking story was just that — a tall tale that played into an old, racist stereotype, otherwise known as “Blame a Black Man” syndrome. Indianapolis detectives saw through the false accusation, and the perpetrator, Francisco Valadez, was arrested on Sept. 10 and charged with murder.
