The Southern Poverty Law Center has uncovered 1,371 hate and antigovernment extremist organizations functioning across the United States in 2024. Their latest report, the Year in Hate & Extremism, highlights these groups' infiltration of political structures while targeting vulnerable communities with intimidation, misinformation, and violence. “Extremists at various governmental tiers exploit brutality, chaos, and relentless assaults on communities to instill a sense of powerlessness,” stated SPLC President Margaret Huang. The report notes that far-right factions aggressively attacked diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, distorting DEI as a perceived risk to White Americans. Moreover, bomb threats at 60 Georgia polling sites, purportedly linked to Russian domains, exemplified their extensive tactics, which included cross-recruitment on Telegram. The SPLC aims to expose these groups' strategies and inspire opposition.
