Currently, Miracle Kelley, Jurnee Murphy, and Safiyah Allen-Crane are engrossed in their studies at their respective Historically Black Colleges and Universities: Coppin State, Xavier, and Clark Atlanta. Their financial burdens eased as they each received $700 scholarships from McKeesport HBCU VISION, as reported by the New Pittsburgh Courier. Founded by Denise Sinkler, an alumna of Clark Atlanta University, this organization supports Pittsburgh-area students pursuing HBCU education. Sinkler emphasized, “HBCUs have historically shaped our Black professionals and spearhead social justice movements.” In a notable move, President Trump enacted an executive order aimed at promoting excellence in the nation’s HBCUs. This established the “President’s Board of Advisors on HBCUs” within the Department of Education, seeking to bolster support for these institutions. HBCUs play a vital role, with nearly 300,000 students enrolled nationally, contributing $16.5 billion to the economy. Celebrating diversity and camaraderie, Sinkler reflects on her positive experiences at Clark Atlanta, illustrating the lasting bonds formed in HBCU communities. (Photo: Wikipedia Commons)
