A woman from middle Georgia is contesting the charges against her husband, who allegedly shot at a police officer he misidentified as a trespasser. Danielle Thompson describes the incident as a significant misunderstanding. On November 16, Thompson and her husband, 73-year-old Laurance Williams, called for police assistance due to loud banging on their door, suspecting it was a prank by teenagers. When further knocking occurred, they were unaware it was an officer since he failed to identify himself.“They were pounding, bam, bam, bam,” Thompson recounted. “He didn’t announce himself. My husband responded, and the gun discharged.”Williams fired through the door, striking the officer in the leg, while authorities say the officer withdrew and requested the couple to exit the residence, leading to their detainment without incident.Thompson believes her husband was merely trying to safeguard their home and questions the narrative presented by authorities. Local councilmember Nathan Gaskin shares her sentiment, underscoring the need for clarity in the police's report on the situation.
