Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin has confirmed his participation in the WJLD 104.1 FM Mayoral Debate scheduled for Tuesday, August 12, 2025. The station has also invited State Representative Juandalynn Givan, engineer and business developer Brian K. Rice, Jefferson County Commissioner Lashunda Scales, and pastor and businessman Frank Woodson to join the discussion. As stated on their Facebook page, "We’ve invited the leading verified candidates based on public records, fundraising activities, and sustained visibility within Birmingham communities, ensuring an engaging and enlightening dialogue among main contenders." The station will offer other qualified candidates a chance to participate in a special segment on The Gary Richardson Morning Show. Woodfin, absent from a prior forum on July 31, addressed claims of evasion regarding debates. He acknowledged a billboard on the city’s Southside questioning his willingness to face challengers. Woodfin assured supporters of his commitment, stating, “I look forward to a passionate dialogue about Birmingham’s future.” The municipal election is slated for August 26, with a potential runoff on October 7.
