Concerns Rise: Human E. Coli Detected in Burnet Woods Park Following Sewer Overflow

An interdisciplinary group of undergraduates from the University of Cincinnati examined human E. coli concentrations in soil following a combined sewer overflow (CSO) event on April 2-3. Their findings reveal alarming levels of E. coli—exceeding 130,000 CFUs/100mL at eight hours post-overflow. These results reinforce the urgent calls from advocates to address public health risks associated with CSOs in Burnet Woods, where heavily trafficked spaces increase exposure risks. The study emphasizes the necessity for informed decision-making regarding resource allocation to prioritize public safety.
