On February 20, 2025, a major legal blow was dealt to developers Lennar and Five Point, as the Law Offices of Bonner & Bonner — representing 6,500 Bayview Hunters Point residents — announced the court’s denial of the developers’ request to validate a proposed settlement as being made in “good faith.” The ruling followed a January 30 hearing that put the controversial deal under intense scrutiny. The lawsuit, first filed on May 1, 2018, accuses the developers — dubbed “Master Developers” by the City — of endangering public health by building homes on Parcel A of the former Hunters Point Naval Shipyard, a site long plagued by radioactive and toxic contamination. Though the area was delisted as a federal Superfund site, residents and advocates say the cleanup was incomplete and misleading.
