President Donald Trump has issued pardons for Todd and Julie Chrisley, who were sentenced to a combined 18 years following their convictions for tax evasion and bank fraud. The news emerged during an interview where their daughter, Savannah, revealed that Trump humorously remarked, “you guys don’t look like terrorists,” while expressing his view that their sentences were excessive.
The Chrisleys gained fame with their reality series, “Chrisley Knows Best,” presenting themselves as successful real estate entrepreneurs from their grand Atlanta mansion. However, prosecutors labeled them as “career swindlers” who secured over $36 million through fraudulent means, including falsified documents.
As they appealed their convictions, Savannah argued that the judicial process was biased against them. The pardons were requested in February and granted just after Memorial Day. Trump's clemency continues his controversial patterns in granting pardons.
