A Miami Uber driver was apprehended over the weekend after brandishing a firearm at a passenger, an incident widely circulated on social media. Authorities charged 23-year-old Jennifer Benitez with aggravated assault using a deadly weapon.
The arrest warrant reveals that Benitez became embroiled in a verbal dispute with her passenger on May 12 while driving from Miami to Hollywood. The situation escalated when the passenger indicated the drop-off location. Benitez's agitation was palpable as she hissed, “I know, that’s why I have a GPS,” before making a jarring left turn that unsettled her passengers’ belongings.
When confronted, Benitez abruptly halted, demanding they exit. Amid the ensuing argument, she retrieved a handgun, prompting the victim to record the altercation for protection. Both passengers fled and reported the incident. No injuries were reported, but the victim expressed severe fear. Uber has since suspended Benitez’s access to the platform.
