An imaginary warrant was the basis for a Texas sheriff's deputy's arrest of an innocent Black woman, Lenisha Janea Parker. Deputy Kenneth “Daniel” Price detained her, utilizing her house key to ransack her home before transporting her to jail. Parker was not informed of the reasons for her arrest and was held in an overcrowded cell over the weekend, unable to reach her children.Despite the absence of any legitimate warrant, magistrate judge Lisa Gail Porter trusted Price’s assertions, imposing a $5,000 bond for Parker’s release. Price was actually pursuing Parker's ex-husband, a wanted felon unrelated to her situation.Parker now sues Price, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, and the county for a protracted pattern of unlawful arrests primarily targeting Black and Hispanic individuals. This incident caused Parker significant psychological distress, leading her attorney to emphasize the severe impact such violations can have on individuals' mental health.
