For the second year in a row, I am thrilled to participate in the Indiana Black Expo’s Education Conference, a vital gathering uniting principals, educators, superintendents, and district leaders across all educational levels. The conference delves into critical issues, including educational policy, teaching techniques, and leadership. I will be alongside author and educator Brother Thomas X. Williams, as we share insights from our dual roles as educators and fathers.
Our presentation, titled “How Fathers and Men Can Change Your School’s Culture,” calls on fathers, brothers, and male role models to actively engage in schools. Historically, mothers have been the primary contact for school matters, but it’s time to involve fathers more significantly.
Despite the challenges faced by schools today, including dwindling resources, we encourage leaders to innovate ways to foster male participation within the academic community. Programs like Arlington H.S.’s Security Dads exemplify how men can positively influence school culture and safety. Together, we aim to empower fathers and demonstrate their vital role in enhancing student outcomes.
